Mr. Babarinde S.M

Director Hydrology

Born in Ogun State on the 20th May, 1967, a native of Araromi-onfo, Ipokia, Ipokia Local Government Areas in Ogun State. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate at Naiwaru-deen Primary School, Agosasa, Ogun State in 1976, WAEC at the District High School, Ipokia, Ogun State, Nigeria in 1983, BSc. (Agricultural Meteorology & Water Management) University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria in 1991, BSc (Geo-Hydrology) Free State University, Orange Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa in 1998.
He started his carrier in the Federal Civil Service when he was employed and deployed to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, as a Hydrologist GL 08 on 29th September, 1993 and grew through the ranks until 2021 when he became a substantive Director, GL17.
He is a trained Isotope Hydrologist and had been involved in many International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Technical Cooperation and Regional projects for peaceful application of Isotopes to determine source, age and mixing process of water using environmental isotopes of oxygen, hydrogen and carbon-13.
In December 2013- June, 2015 he Served as a Member of the Governing Council, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), also, from June 2018 to 2020, he Served as member of Governing Board, Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA).
Mr. Babarinde S.M. was previously the Head of Climate Change from 2010 to 2020, with the responsibility of mainstreaming climate change issues into the water sector, and had been part of the Nigerian Delegation to many United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – Conference of Parties meetings (UNFCCC-COP).
Mr. Babarinde S.M. has attended many short Courses, Programmes, Conferences and Seminars both within and outside the country since joining the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
He is happily married with children.
