Finance and Accounts
The Department of Finance and Accounts (F&A) supports the Ministry of Water Resources in procuring sufficient financial resources for the sustainable implementation of the Ministry’s mandate. The Department aims to ensure adequate budget allocation, effective and efficient service to the Ministry’s departments and the reduction of transaction processing time. Lastly, F&A works to provide prompt and timely submission of statutory returns to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
To achieve its goals, the department performs the following functions:
- Receipt, custody, and disbursement of public funds
- Maintain necessary and statutory books of accounts
- Prompt processing of all approval payments of the Ministry
- Render statutory periodic returns to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
- Provide financial information to management for decision making
- Liaise with the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Central Bank of Nigeria, and other financial institutions
- Respond to audit queries
- Prepare the Ministry’s budget and submit to the Budget Office of the Federation
- Defend budget in conjunction with other departments and agencies
- Monitor budget in conjunction with other department and agencies
- Provide familiarization tour to department and agencies
- Assess human capacity needs of staff
- Provide in-house trainings/workshops
