The Director Water Supply and PPP Engr. Benson Ajisegiri, FNSE, FNAH stated this at the just concluded Stakeholders Engagement Meeting on use of Data for Decision Support and Preparations for the Second Round of the National Outcome Routine Mapping (WASH-NORM II) held on 17/10/2019 at Reiz Continental Hotel, Central Area-Abuja.

The Director who was ably represented by the Deputy Director Collaboration and Partnership , Mr. Fashoyi Olabode stated that the meeting will examine and discuss the vital issues related to the successful commencement of second round of WASH (WASH NORM) in Nigeria. He noted that “the Ministry had in 2018 steered the inaugural WASH NORM (NORM I) in collaboration with National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which was followed by the unveiling and official launch of NORM I report on 27th May 2019”. He further stated that the accuracy, precision, consistency, completeness and comprehensiveness of NORM data has now revolutionized the way and manner we manage WASH in Nigeria”.

He revealed that under the able leadership of the Honourable Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu, FNSE, FAeng WASH-NORM has now eventually developed into an implementable programme on a yearly basis that will span from now till 2025, and this conclusion is premised on the need to closely monitor all the development drives of the Ministry, most especially as the Nation seeks to end Open Defecation (OD) by 2025 through the “Clean Nigeria Campaign”and achieve the SDGs through the National Action Plan.

Earlier, the Assistant Director, Collaboration and Partnership; Mr. Adebanjo Adebayo acknowledged the representatives of all the Development Partners and key Stakeholders that were present at the meeting. According to him, the Stakeholder’s Meeting will discuss the methodology for implementation of WASH-NORM II, the lessons and improvement to the WASH_NORM-I, while the presentation will focus mainly on the key findings of 2018 NORM-I, application of NORM Data and prospects of the “NORM Intervention Profiling Tool”, data gaps in the 2018 NORM-I and the Scope of NORM-II , WASH Account , Water Quality Assessment and Methodology under NORM II , the Design of NORM-II, and NORM II Indicators and Survey Tools, he added.

In conclusion, he urged all to participate actively in the meeting with a view of agreeing on the methodology and the improvement added to the data sets of the WASH-NORM 1.
