WATER RESOURCES ORGANISED A 2-DAY RETREAT ON IMPLEMENTATION OF ROADMAP FOR NEWLY CREATED DEPARTMENT OF WATER RESOURCES PLANNING AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT SERVICES HELD AT BARCA-LIGA HOTELS, APO ABUJA
Federal Ministry of Water Resources organised a 2-Day retreat on Development of Implementation Roadmap for the newly created Department of Water Resources Planning and Technical Support Services held at Barca Liga Hotels , Apo Abuja from 9th-10th May,2019.
In his Welcome Address, the Director Water Resources Planning and Technical Support Services ,Engr. Gerald Osuagwu welcomed all participants and informed them that the Retreat is a follow up to the first organized for members of the new Department from 5th-6th October, 2018 at Rockview Hotels Abuja. He added that the second phase which is organized for Grade Level 14 and above in the Department is to consolidate on the outcome of the previous one and proffer strategies , including development of a robust Roadmap to ensure implementation of departmental mandates, proposed a new organogram, manning levels, realign responsibilities for improved work ethics and professionalism.
The Permanent Secretary Mrs. Ekaro Comfort C. represented by Director Special Duties Department Mr. Peter Nwakpa in his Opening Address, gave a brief background leading to the professionalization of the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) as well as the Department of River Basin Operations and Inspectorate (RBOI) and what necessitated the name change from the Department of PRS to Department of Water Resources Planning and Technical Support Services (DWRP&TSS). He said that this reform came to fore following the approval granted to the Ministry by Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF). With that approval, a number of technical responsibilities have been added and as such, the new Department is expected to adopt better strategies towards achieving its fresh mandate in accordance with the vision and mission of the Ministry, he said. In recognition of this fact, a retreat was organised he added.
According to him, the Objective of the Retreat was to implement Roadmap and build the capacity of all categories of Staff in the Department to deliver on their respective tasks of achieving the vision and mission of the Ministry. He also added that the Retreat was also designed to put the new Department in the rights tracks and harvest valuable ideas on the manpower requirements, realignment of responsibility and making recommendations that will be in the overall interest of the Ministry, the water Sector and the Country at large.
The Retreat was organized for Staff on Grade levels 14 and above with Representatives of Technical Departments and Agencies of the Ministry.
