WATER RESOURCES BOOST STAFF EFFECTIVENESS ON STRATEGIC PROJECT MONITORING AND EVALUATION
The Department of Water Resources Planning and Technical Support Services, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Ministry organised a 2-Day Training Workshop on Strategic Monitoring and Evaluation for Staff held at Grand Pela Hotel from Wednesday 13th – Thursday 14th March, 2019 . The Workshop was meant to provide a platform for interaction for the Officers to explore the concepts and issues related to strengthening Monitoring and Evaluation.
Declaring the Workshop open, the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Ekaro Comfort Chukwumuebobo represented by the Director Special Duties Mr Peter Nwakpa urged the participants to see the Workshop as an opportunity to acquire the necessary skills required for effective project monitoring, evaluation and reporting. In like manner the Director, Water Resources Planning and Technical Support Services Engr. Gerald Osuagwu who was represented by the Deputy Director Monitoring and Evaluation Division Mrs. Agnes Aneke urged participants to step up their capacity and fashion out policies that would be result based in accelerating economic development ideas which will enhance the ease of doing business in the public service.
Earlier, the Deputy Director Monitoring and Evaluation Division, Mrs Agnes Aneke in her welcome address said that the 2-Day Strategic Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Workshop will be quite intensive and educative. Emphasizing on the importance of M&E, she said that strategic implementation of monitoring and Evaluation will help to identify the most valuable and efficient use of resources and also provides the necessary data to guide project planning, design and programmes, allocating and re-allocating resources in better ways. She also stressed the need for a wider level awareness creation on the usefulness of M&E in all official duties. She thanked WaterAid Nigeria for their Technical support to the Ministry.
The 2-Day Workshop ended with a presentation of Communique detailing the challenges and recommendations that will strengthen the implementation of M&E in the Country.The Deputy Director, Monitoring and Evaluation Mrs. Agnes Aneke in a closing remark said that she believed that the skills acquired during the intensive Workshop must have changed the paradigm of Participants in the field of Monitoring, evaluation and reports writing.
